Machairodus(or Amphimachairodus) aphanistus was probably the most widespread species of Machairodus found in many parts of Europe and Asia during the Miocene.The genus Machairodus existed for approximately 11.5 million years.M. aphanistus and the North American M.(Nimravides) catacopis representing the more primitive grade of the genus.
