Machairodus Giganteus by Leogon Machairodus Giganteus by Leogon
Ok,Here is my latest Machairodontine cat! The magestic Machairodus giganteus, with 1.30 m at the shoulder and about 2.5 m body length, is undoubtedly one of the biggest cats of all times. The elongated face and muzzle (A trait common in Machaidus and Homotherium genus) gives the cat an odd look.
I made this one in Artrage and PS cs6 by a Wacom bamboo pen&touch.
Hope you all like it and I need your critiques as always.:-)

Quick question where did this cat live and at what time?

In Miocene Eurasia there is enough evidence of their presence.Other places, I am not that sure.:-)

Was this a real cat or is it fictional?  I must know!  :la:  (It's quite beautiful, by the way.)

It was a real machairodontine cat.It existed during Miocene in many parts of the world.M.giganteus was the biggest species of the genus.

Nice looking cat. I enjoy seeing what Chatters' ancestors may have looked like.

That would be wonderful. There is nothing in this world like big cats. Unfortunately, with all the habitat destruction, I don't know how they would survive.

Paws look amazing, the fur is just incredibly well done.

While I find the cat as such is really beautifully done, the background somehow draws too much attention away from the cat. I don't think it's the tone of colour of the background but more the bushes and branches that mess a little with the watcher's focus. The background isn't terribly disturbing, just a faint distraction from the cat.

All in all, however, I find you did an outstanding job on this one regardless :+fav:

Thank you so much:-) it seems I've still got some problems with choosing and doing backgrounds:D it's so hard to find some nice background for this kind of work, unless I do all background myself, which unfortunately, I don't have much time to do this.:-( On the other hand, altering the backgrounds id sort of harder than creating them;-)you know; it's all about putting the shades, adjusting the colors and contrast, adding necessary elements and so on.I wish I were a better landscape maker...

The detail depth! Just amazing! Is there a trick, or did you really paint every individual hair on its body? Looks absolutely brilliant.

Thanks dude!:D
The trick is, first I prepare a basic drawing of animal in PS with a base color then I do the fur in at least 10 layers with the Artrage and then merge them.Of course all the final touches like shadows, colors and adding more details are done in PS.
